The shipbuilding industry is one of the pillar industries in China’s national economy,and the shipbuilding cycle largely determines the level of the shipbuilding industry.Although our country’s shipbuilding industry is developing very quickly, even now hasbecome the largest shipbuilding country in the world, we should know we have still muchroom to improvement in every aspect compare with Japanese and South Korea which areadvanced shipbuilding countries, specially in the shipbuilding cycle. In order to shorten thegap between China and the advanced countries, introducing advanced technology is aneffective method. The using of Concurrent Engineering in the manufacturing, as car industryand aircraft industry, is more and more mature, and achieved some success. Many expertsand scholars who research ship pay more attention to concurrent engineering applying inshipbuilding, but the idea of concurrent engineering in theory and practical application ofthe shipping industry is still in the exploratory stage.The article mainly analyses four key technology of concurrent engineering applicationin ship design, include:(1) Optimization of ship design process;(2) Formation of multifunction development team;(3) Analysis of product data management;(4) Building acollaborative working environment. Focusing on the optimization reorganization of shipdesign process, its principle is dividing traditional design process into several sub process,and paralleling the original serial sub process. After ending a design, immediatelyevaluation of the stages of the design, instead of the traditional design process cycle withmultiple design microcirculations; to achieve “macro-serial, parallel micro "purposes;finally built the new accord with concurrent engineering design process.In order to deeper understanding effect of concurrent engineering to ship cycle,introduced the Petri net modeling method, optimization of the concurrent design processthrough the time Petri net modeling, using the Petri net modeling advantages analysis of themodel characteristics, through the calculation of time, comparative analysis time differenceof the concurrent engineering and the serial works by qualitative combined with quantitativeanalysis, and according each phase of the important degree of the rational distribution todistribute relaxation time, to quantify the concurrent engineering shorten shipbuilding cycleefficiency. Finally, with a shipyard8500tons of bulk chemicals ship as the object, analysesthe actual application process of concurrent engineering in shipbuilding.
