Based on the requirements of the energy storage system on the electric mini-car, a compoundpower system which composed of batteries and ultra-capacitors is proposed in this paper, in order toovercome the shortages on specific power and specific energy of single energy storage system.An overall design of compound power system is presented. The parameters of the batteries andultra-capacitors are calculated and matched. The structure of bi-direction DC/DC converter isdetermined and analyzed. According to the operating requirement of compound power system, theparameters of the main components of bi-direction DC/DC converter are calculated. AMATLAB/SIMULIN simulation model which based on the efficiency analysis of converter is built.A new power distribution control strategies, which integrating the advantages of thevelocity-based power distribution control strategy and logic threshold power distribution controlstrategy, is presented. At the same time, a simulation model in MATLAB/SIMULINK is built. At last,the compound power system is simulated on board of vehicle by using the vehicle simulation modelin ADVISOR2002.The advantages of the compound power system are fully proved by the results of thesimulation, which proves the compound power system is available and effective.
