Progressive collapse refers to the structural damage then deteriorated down tohorizontal and vertical ways result from gravity, it result in disaster condition anddisproportionate compare to when it has been impacted directly by contingency load. Inrecently years. It has been attracted to large number of researcher to study that thestrong earthquakes and terrorist events caused the progressive collapse of structures.After summarizing the achievements in this field, the paper combined GSAProgressive Collapse Analysis and Design Guidelines and DOD Design of Buildings toResist Progressive Collapse to analyze the characters and mechanism of progressivecollapse. Then the force and deformation was discussed during the elastic stage, theplastic stage and the catenary stage,that process occered during progressive collapseearly or later.Using alternate path method and seeing the failure time as the key factor, this paperdid the theory and numerical analysis of the effect of failure time to the failure pointdisplacement, velocity, acceleration variation. First, a RC double layers with doublespan structure was analysed to get the relationship between the dynamic displacement,dynamical magnification factor with the failure time. Then, a4layer3spans RCframework structure was simulated combining with engineering. Then compared theaxial force, the vertical displacement and the failure point displacement in initial statewith the ones in failure state, after the failure of the bottom edge short column. Thepaper analyzed the different failure time to failure point displacement, velocity,acceleration impact, and failure points dynamic effect with component failure time direction.The paper claimed that, for RC structure, the important component failure time isa key point in influencing the failure point dynamic effect during progressive collapse.The conclusion of this paper can be used for RC framework structures to againstprogressive collapse in designing and chooing the dynamical magnification factor infailure point.
