A Study On Applying Traditional European Style To Interior Decoration Design In Urban Recreational Area

At present, the modern interior decoration appears in diversification condition,which includes traditional Chinese decoration elements, modern decoration elementsand European traditional adornment element. European traditional decoration elementsaffect the human living environment and landscape look greatly, and occupy animportant position in modern interior environment design, but the application of them isnot satisfied in Chinese urban recreational area for the different culture, region, valueand aesthetic view, Therefore, the aim of this study is to explore the relationshipbetween European traditional style and modern interior design in urban recreationalarea.In this study, the interior design in Xi’an Defu lane urban recreational area wasregarded as study object. The research was conducted from four aspects: the functionand construction of urban recreational area; interior decoration of urban recreationalarea; Xi’an Defu lane and its interior decoration; comparison of European traditionalstyle between Xi’an Defu lane and Shanghai Xintiandi. The main contents are asfollowing:1. The function and construction of public space environment with the example ofXi’an Defu lane, and landscape elements of Xi’an Defu lane.2. The concept of interior design, the types of interior design and decorationmaterials; the reason of European traditional style applying to the interior design atXi’an Defu lane; the feature of European traditional style in interior design at Xi’anDefu lane and its appearance in different periods. 3. Analyzing these decoration elements of European different periods appearing inDefu lane.4. Investigating Shanghai Xintiandi Walking Street also with European traditionalstyle, comparing the interior design with Xi’an Defu lane, and discussing the expressionand application of European traditional style in modern interior design.The results from this study indicated that the combination of multiple styles was atthe dominant position, and multiple decoration styles satisfied the modern people’smultiple aesthetic emotion; it’s very common with the combination of Chinese andEuropean traditional style, and it’s a cultural phenomenon suitable to the current society.The domestic designers should explore the methods and rules how to combine them,how to apply European traditional style on the basis of domestic art style, and developsingle design idea and “diversification” design idea together.
