Laser Doppler Velocimetry can measure the fluid speed and solid speed based onDoppler Effect. It has many advantages, such as high resolution, quickly dynamicresponse and wide range of speed measurement, so it has wide prospect of market in theindustrial fields and is playing an important role in the research field.This paper introduces the development and the status of laser Doppler velocimetryand then it explains the principle of laser Doppler velocimetry. In addition, it comparesthe advantages and disadvantages of several light ways, designed the photoelectriccircuit and amplifying circuit and a set of laser Doppler measurement system. It alsodescribes several signal process methods, such as, FFT, self-correlation, power spectrumanalysis and their implementation methods using MATLAB. After that, it introduces thebasic knowledge of serial port and realizes the connection between Agilent oscilloscope54622D and computer. Acquiring Doppler signal from oscilloscope, then send it tocomputer for processing. It completes the compile of GUI interface and realizes thefunction of data acquisition using serial port and signal processing.In the end, it sets up a laser Doppler velocimetry system in laboratory to measurethe speed of the moving object for preparation of further research and productdevelopment.
