The aircraft design is often new products design or modified products design, it is difficult to accurately give the time of design activities or tasks ahead of its design time, they only can be forecasted and estimated. However, for the planning stages of the design at the beginning, it is essential to understand the time-consuming of each design task. At present, time estimation of the aircraft design are mostly based on empirical estimates, this is very unscientific and extremely volatile. Therefore, it is very necessary to make the study of the time characteristics estimation method and the optimization method.This article introduces a collaborative design idea, time characteristics in the aircraft design process is studied from the perspective of concurrent design, then time estimation method of the aircraft design process is presented based on design structure matrix. At the same time, optimization of time is also researched. Some related research content includes:This paper introduces a concurrent design idea, the two commonly used general methods for estimating product design time has been studied, and the two methods are compared. According to their own characteristics of aircraft design, the method of the fuzzy design structure matrix based on the sensitivity and variability is given, which describes design process of aircraft, and the design structure matrix is optimized. Subsequently, time characteristics in aircraft design process are studied on the base of the fuzzy DSM, A universal estimation model of time in aircraft design process is given. At the same time, the concept of designers’load index based on the established time model are proposed to solve task allocation problem, the optimization methods of time characteristics in aircraft design process are studied. Finally, an application example of aircraft is given, the validity and the practicality of the model are verified by this example.Results of this study can supply a reference for decision and optimization about the early of aircraft design, and provide a way, which is time estimation of aircraft design process, it also deepen the research foundation.
