As one of the most effective security components of vehicle, Anti-lock Braking System(ABS) is able to eliminate the instability effectively, prevent wheel lock and improve the traffic safety. The braking process exhibits strongly nonlinear, time-varying and uncertain characteristics due to poor working conditions. That requires the control algorithm of the ABS controller has strong rapidity, reliability and anti-interference capability. Logic threshold control algorithm applied widely in real vehicle lacks theoretical basis, generality and anti-interference capability, which leads to the fluctuating performance of ABS. New breakthroughs in control algorithm are expected to be achieved and applied to the practice.In this paper, extensive researches have been conducted on the available control algorithms of ABS, especially the sliding mode control and its combination with grey prediction control. A new adaptive grey sliding mode control algorithm for ABS is presented. The algorithm has the advantages of the sliding mod control and the grey prediction control. As a result, chattering can be effectively eliminated. Moreover adaptive prediction step as well as adaptive sliding mode control can be achieved according to the predictive precision. The simulation results indicate that the ABS system has good performance in speed, stability, and robustness.Furthermore, based on the system requirement analysis, the controller hardware is designed using the high performance and low consumption ARM processor, STM32F103. The circuits for brake pedal, wheel speed signal processing, pump motor drive and solenoid valve drive and son on, are designed as the extended circuits. Meanwhile, the design idea and the implementation method are elaborated.
