With the development of modern railway transportation, the elevated railway station emerges as a new kind of structure. It is not only a single building structure or a single bridge structure, but also a combined structure of bridge and building. Compared with traditional railway station, it can reduce the floor area remarkably, especially be suitable for the urban transportation system with land resource shortage, which is one of the main reasons for the rapid development of the elevated railway station. Moreover, it has the advantages of low construction cost and short construction period, compared with the underground railway station.The Nanjing South Railway Station is one of five origin stops located on the high-speed railway line between Beijing and Shanghai, using a combined structural type of elevated bridges and buildings. However, high-speed train induced vibrations of the bridge on the main line will transfer to the station building from the vertical bracing system and thus cause damage to the structure safety and passenger comfort. Therefore, it is very necessary to analyze the dynamic characteristics of whole structure. In this paper, a finite element model of the Nanjing South Station is established to investigate the dynamic characteristics of the structure. The dynamic responses of the structure under train passage are computed. The main research works are as follows:(1) A review of development of high-speed railway and elevated railway station in China is presented. The significance of study the dynamic characteristics of the Nanjing South Station is explained.(2) A3-D finite element model of the Nanjing South Station is established with the help of Midas/civil software. The dynamic characteristics of the whole structure are analyzed.(3) The dynamic responses of the waiting floor under train passage are computed in time domain by simplifying the train loads as the moving load series under various loading case. The evaluation of passenger comfort is presented based on numerical results and corresponding criterion.
