Since ancient times, water for the survival of mankind as the material basis, it is the important component and element landscape constitution, and gives the garden more vitality. As one of the most attractive landscapes, water feature has been widely applied to modern urban environment design. With the development of our society, people’s quality of life and aesthetic appeal are constantly improving, awareness of environment protection is constantly enhanced. Landscape designers pay more and more attention to the introduction and utilization of water features. Water feature in green space not only can form a landscape, rich landscape effects, but also improve the quality of the environment, provide a hydrophilic sites for people. Especially in the areas of relatively rich in water resources, all kinds of water features is widely used in urban green space, obtained very good landscape effect and enhance the image of the city. Diversification of water feature environment always with applications a large number of water, many designs of water feature just simply consider the landscape effect, while ignoring the resulting problem--the waste of water resources. Currently, the global is in a shortage of water resources. Water resources in China is particularly scarce and its per capita is very small. Due to improper design and management, dry pool, dirty water in the urban green spaces is not rare. Under this premise, how to carry on the reasonable design of water feature to create beauty to people, at the same time, does not cause the waste of water resources, reduce the conservation and management cost, maintain long-term good landscape effect of water feature become the key factor of good development in urban green space. Based on the investigation of the existing urban water features in Shanghai green scape, dopt the method of combining normative and empirical research, carried out a systematic study of water feature design, is for the purpose to provide guidance of water feature design and construction in urban greenscape. By analyze the water features status in urban green space of Shanghai, summed up the classification and various layout of water feature, summarized the present common design technique, and the existing main problems and experiences in outstanding water feature design. The paper focus on water feature evaluation, from the perspective of landscape, selection four economic factors: landscape, society, ecology and economy to build the evaluation system of water feature design and renovation, vectorization the green space water feature evaluation factor. Based on the evaluation factor, formed the theoretical framework of water feature design and the transformation, try to provide theoretical references to water feature design and renovation, guide the further development of water feature dialectically. Propose the appropriate solution for the problems identified for further, such as high cost of water feature maintenance, lack of maintenance, water scarce of water feature, construction the ecology and sustainability water feature in the green space. Reduce the maintenance operating costs by construction the ecological and sustainability water feature. Focus on recycling and the use of stormwater and city used water in order to reduce the waste of water resources. The research of water features design in Shanghai has an important influence on the construction of the city, not only provided the richer theory backing for the next community water feature design, but also provide the relevant experience and lessons for other cities.
