With the rapid increase of voltage level in power system, the ground area of the gridis growing fast. In order to meet the requirements of safe operation, the calculation of theground parameters in ground project is particularly important. As the grounding resistanceis an key parameter in grounding works, its accurate calculation is is a top priority. Atpresent, methods for calculating the grounding resistance can be divided into twoforms, that are formula calculation and numerical calculation. Formula limitations, onlyfor simple grounding model or specific situations, is obviously less accurate and flexiblethan numerical analysis method. From the research situation, there are a lot of research on calculating groundingresistance in uniform soil structure, and have achieved very satisfactory results. But soil isoften non-uniform with hierarchical structure in practical works. In this paper, a detaileddeducing of discrete method for grounding network in complex soil structures, includinghorizontally multi-layer,vertically multi-layer soils and horizontal-vertical mixedmulti-layer,were carried out on the basis of the method of moments. In this analysis,FORTRAN language was used to programming for accurate calculating groundingresistance in horizontally two-layer and vertically two-layer soils. For discussinggrounding resistance of compound network with single, double and multiple horizontalground network, the corresponding models were established using MATLAB.At present, there is a temporary absence of a comprehensive parametric analysis ofearthing resistance in layered soil. In the latter part of this paper, for studying the factorsaffecting the grounding resistance,a detailed analysis of various grounding grid structureand laying the parameters was carried out combined with the programming results.Andvalid conclusions were drawing for providing a strong theoretical basis for practicalprojects.
