The design of the room heater involved in multi-disciplinary knowledge, including structure, aerodynamics, heat transfer theory and so on. Few companies analyze the influence of various design parameters on the performances of the heater due to the limitation of technology and cost. Most engineers design a new heater only by their experience. After the design, engineers have to produce physical prototypes to test the performance of the product and get some data, which will help the engineers to improve their design. However, as the reason why the temperature distribution is like that is not clear, the improvement of the heaters’design is with a certain degree of subjectivity and blindness. Therefore the improvement of the product need to repeat several times to get a qualified product, which greatly increase the product development cycle time and cost.Computational fluid dynamic theory, combined with the basic principles of heat transfer, can accurately simulate the temperature field distribution of the products. However, such an analysis needs a lot of knowledge about fluid and heat transfer theories and it is quite difficult to be done by general engineers. This advanced technology cannot play a role in the heater production. As a response to this situation, this paper will study how to use computational fluid dynamic (CFD) software to analysis the temperature distribution of the room heaters, how the parameters of the heaters influence the temperature field and how to improve the design of a heater. The main research contents are as follows:(1) Establish the mathematical model of heat transfer in the heater. Analysis of the heater’s internal heat transfer characteristics and build the analytical calculation for each heat transfer mode. Due to the limitation of the analytical methods, numerical methods about heat transfer process are studied.(2) Study the nature convection heater’s temperature field and the methods to analyze a heater of this kind. Try to find the key parameters which influence the performance of a heater most. Analyze of the product and find its problems.(3) Study the methods to analyze a radiant heater. Use reflection heater as an example to study the key parameters which influence the temperature distribution most.(4)Study the temperature field of oil radiator and the methods to analyze a heater of this kind. Natural convection of air and oil will take place as the oil heater works. The form and influencing factors of the tow flow will be studied.(5)In order to reduce the difficulty and improve the efficiency of temperature field analysis, this paper studies the technology of secondary development on Solidworks flow simulation and develop a special platform for heaters’thermal analysis.(6)According to the result of thermal analysis of convection heater, this paper uses the heater analysis platform to analyze an improved design. At last, the performance on heating efficiency was optimized and the security factor of the product was increased.The study of three kinds of heaters will provide a way to heaters temperature field analysis, which will introduce the advanced technology to heaters industry. This paper develops an analysis platform based on Flow Simulation, which will help the manufactures to develop their own platform to improve their design ability and increase their competitiveness. Methods to improve heaters’temperature distribution have been proposed, that could be a guideline for heaters’design.
