The key of the research on the mechanics is the mechanical innovation design. Theessence of the mechanical innovation design is that different methods of type synthesis andisomorphism identification which is able to form different kinematic chains are devoted to theinnovation, after which plenty of structures with good quality and unique performance areconstruted. In recent years, much achievement has been obtained in type synthesis,isomorphism identification and innovation. However, due to the complexity, inefficiency andnot utility of those methods, the development of the mechanics is constrained, so simple,efficient and practical methods are considered difficult and hot, also they are pursued by allthe mechanical researchers.In this paper, the multiple planar links are taken, and the research has been committed intype synthesis, isomorphism identification and innovation design. The specific steps are asfollows:The general steps of the type synthesis have been induced after plenty of methods oftype synthesis are researched, and the branched chain of embryo, the interpolation ofembryo and the fundamental chain construction of the kinematic are combined andused flexibly(called systematic method). Planar kinematic chains containing the lesseight links with from vice one freedom to seven freedoms are typed. After that, thetype synthesis for planar kinematic chains with compound hinges is created.The method based on character arrays is elaborated in detail and created after someexamples of isomorphism identification, which can completely be allied in not onlythe single but also the multiple kinematic chains. And then, one new software for themethod is invented, then the method is computerized, which indicates the methodsimple and efficient.Yan’s Creative Mechanism Design Methodology is used for the creative design of a deformable sofa bed, and some insufficient aspects are proposed, and then somesteps are taken in, such as restructuring based on the link number, the adding andsubtracting links, the topological evaluation and isomeric mechanism, whichdevelops the methodology and makes it more simple and perfect. An institutionqualified with opening-closing action which is used in glass product molding is citedto illustrate the new method.The weft insertion mechanism with conjugate cam is considered to be the originalmechanism for the innovation design mentioned above. Several schemes areproposed and one scheme is analyzed, modeled and simulated, which proves themethod simple and efficient.
