As the solid foundation for the existence and development of society, energy is an important guarantee for economic growth and social progress. The problem of energy shortage and environmental pollution that caused by conventional energy is increasingly serious. In order to solve these problems and ensure the normal operation of the various economic fields, at the same time to achieve sustainable development of the economy and society, countries around the world began to adjust the energy structure and focused on the development of new energy. Wind as a renewable and clean energy is concerned by countries around the world.Wind turbine gearbox as an integral part of the wind generator system. Vibration, noise and other issues which are caused by gear system affect the normal operation of the wind generator system. Therefore, it has the great significance for studying the dynamic characteristics of the wind turbine gearbox to improve the overall life of the wind generator system. In this paper, the dynamic characteristics of1.5MW wind turbine gearbox were studied by using the virtual prototyping technology. The main content is as follows.The transmission structure and the design parameters of all various components for the1.5MW wind turbine gearbox were determined in this paper, at the same time, made an intensity check for Key components. The models of all various parts that belong to wind turbine gearbox and the assembly model were established by using Pro/E.Based on multi-body system dynamics theory, this paper presented a discussion about modeling theory, method of calculation and solution procedure for the multi-body system dynamics. The model of multi-body system dynamics for wind turbine gearbox was established in ADAMS.By means of ADAMS, Virtual Prototyping of the wind turbine gearbox has been founded, and the simulation parameters were calculated and set. Giving an analysis and discussion for the simulation results, then, compared them with theoretical calculations and proved the correctness of the simulation results.Based on the medium-speed level of wind turbine gearbox, this paper made force analysis for planetary gear trains. In order to simulated bearings and got more dynamic characteristics, the original revolute joints that between planet carrier and planetary gear were instead by bushing. The results which were received from simulation coincided with the theoretical results.The flexible bodies of planetary gear, sun gear and ring gear which belong to the medium-speed level of wind turbine gearbox were got by ANSYS, and generated the modal neutral files. The original rigid bodies were instead by those flexible bodies. It can be taken a Rigid-flexible coupling simulation for the wind turbine gearbox, and got the information about dynamic stress-strain, maximum stress location and dangerous nodes of the flexible bodies.
