In recent years, along with the economic development of Yunnan province, a number of high grade highways have been established, but meanwhile, more and more problems of expansive soil begin to emerge. Because of the expansive soil clay mineral composition which comprise of strong hydrophilic mineral montmorillonite and its mixed layer clay mineral composition leads to the different engineering properties with normally consolidated soil roadbed, such as:overconsolidation、fracture、Significant expansion of water、 shrinkage cracking and repeated deformation. What’s more, it has damaged the railway and highway seriously, as well as impeding the economy unceasing development of Yunnan province. Therefore, experimental study of expansive soil engineering geology has practical significance for the further study of expansive soil engineering.In order to fundamentally solve the harm caused by expansive soil on the railways and highways in the Yu Meng District, this paper takes diluvial-residual expansive soil as a sample which collected in the specific sites of Yu Meng lines, through a number of field investigations, understands the field characteristics and disease characteristics of the expansive soil; researchs on the relationship among the initial water content, dry density and swelling deformation under the different pressure, and the relationship between the initial water content and the force of expansion under the different dry density are made through a lot of indoor soil tests; analysis of the slope residual expansive soil stress-strain curve of Yu Meng line was made by using conventional three axis test, accordingly, the relations of water content, degree of saturation, dry density and the strength is also studied, and establish quantitative expression about strength index, water content and saturation of expansive soil slope in Yu Meng line.
