With the increasing transport demand of Shuohuang Railway every year, increasing the running speed of no-load truck becomes a powerful method to enhance the capacity of railway transportation. But compared to fully loaded truck, derailment accident will happen easily on no-load truck due to the reducing of vertical force. The research of the derailment has been national major issue on the field of rail transportation.Due to the complexity of the derailment mechanism, so far, there are some problems on derailment criterion, and the cause of the derailment accident is seldom identified.This paper using the latest achievements of domestic and international truck derailment, designs a derailment warning system of no-load truck on heavy haul railway meeting the actual needs of Shuohuang Railway. The system was designed by detecting the operating status of the no-load truck and researching the evaluation criteria of the derailment, based on the wheel-rail forces, combined with the wheel-rail relative displacement and lateral acceleration. The system is aiming at increasing the speed of the no-load truck on the heavy haul railway and enhancing the capacity of Shuohuang Railway.Firstly the overall system and all the parts of the derailment of warning system are designed. The measurement methods of wheel-rail forces, relative displacements and truck accelerations are proposed, and an indirect measurement of wheel-rail lateral force: is designed, by using ANSYS wheel modeling, the relationship of the lateral forces and wheel deformation is analyzed. The level of security classification is proposed combined with the existing derailment criterion. Then detailed implement of the hardware and software of derailment detection system are designed. By using ADAMS truck model, simulation and analysis have been done. Laboratory platform structures of the warning system and the installation bench of each sensor are completed, at last the laboratory and field experiments in wireless communication systems are completed.The research of this paper will provide a theoretical basis to enhance the trucks’ speed and efficiency of trucks turnover. The system has great significance for ensuring the energy supply of the east and the southeast of China and expanding our coal exports.
