The application of Chinese railway freight Car wheel at present was expressed, the information of840D wheel was introduced, and the problems of the type wheel in the current trend of Chinese railway quickly and heavy, the main task that namely finding thefatigue analysis method of railway freight Car wheel was pointed out.After reviewing the development of railway wheel plate stress analysis technology. The finite element analysis method based on elastic-plastic properties of materials was determined.The basic evaluation technology about fatigue strength was expounded, the widely used method that nominal stress method was used in this paper.The3-D model and FE model of840D wheel was established, thecorresponding restraint and boundary conditions was added in the meshed FE model.The working condition of railway wheel was analysised,the calculation under different working conditions was done by the FE model,the position of the point of maximum stress was found under different working conditions,the cause of the crack was analysised.Then Combined with practical application of the wheel operating condition,the influence of migration of holes position in spoke plates and rim thickness of the wheel about the stress field was analysised in the typical working conditions, the creating reason and the initiating condition of the wheel plates fatigue crack was discussed,the propagation condition of thewheel plates fatigue crack was listed detailly,the stress intensity factor at the wheel was calculated.At Last,The simulation calculation about the wheel fatigue crack in the DaTong-QingHuangdao railway condition was done,the wheels crack growth rate was estimated.The research results was summarized.
