Permanent Magnet Synchronous In-Wheel Motors are new permanent magnet motor for electric vehicle drive system. It is high power density, low emissions, diversified energy and easy to realize the intelligent control. The in-wheel motor in this article is the permanent magnet synchronous motor with radial magnetic field and it includes Surface-mount Permanent magnet synchronous Motors (SPM) and Interior Permanent magnet synchronous Motor (IPM).Firstly, the polar arc coefficient of SPM was studied. A SPM model was simulated in ANSOFT finite element software to draw the curves of polar arc coefficient with THD values and the fundamental values of EMF, getting the arc coefficient where has minimum THD value and the largest fundamental value. For the polar arc coefficient on cogging torque, derived Fourier decomposition coefficients of Br2(θ) to select reasonable polar arc coefficient could have smaller cogging torque. Static simulation of different pole arc coefficient has done to calculate the leakage coefficient. Then the V-shaped IPM was studied for the two parameters of magnet angle A and width Won the EMF, cogging torque with the same methods of SPM.Finally, the difference of SPM and IPM with the same structural parameters was studied in EMF, cogging torque and magnetic flux leakage coefficient.
