| In the field of architecture, research on the form of surface has always been drawing the attention from scholars and architects. Due to the development of digital design techniques and theories, the study on the form of three-dimensional surface has been greatly promoted. However, comparing with the fruitful achievements in this area, the two-dimensional surface, which is so common in architecture, has hardly been studied so far. Moreover, without theoretical and systematical studies, most of the relevant research only involves either the profile of projects or the classification of cases. In response to the phenomena, this thesis focuses on the two-dimensional surface. On the basis of symmetry and tiling theories, the study is separated into two parts:surface subdivision and property operation of components. The first part elaborates on the characteristics, generation and programming methods of periodic and nonperiodic tilings, as well as its application in architecture through the analysis of relevant cases. The second part presents the classification and rules of property operation of components with several actual projects. Based on the author’s practice in the design process, the basic steps of generating a two-dimensional surface are summarized in the end.The whole thesis contains about50000words,115pictures and charts. |
