In modern power system, reactive power compensation plays an important role tohelp the power grid running in a stable and economic state.Power capacitors,as the primeelectrical component for reactive power compensation, are widely applied in the powersystem.However,the capacitor which has high failure rate often breakdowns in the dailyoperation,even results in lacerative explosive accidents.But we can’t affirm the immediatecause of the failure because we haven’t the valid basis for judgment.We don’t know thecapacitor manufacturer or State Grid should be blamed for,either.This paper designs a monitoring terminal based on embedded technology,which hason-line monitoring function for power capacitor.The device for real-time monitoring ofpower capacitor’s operating voltage and current, records fault waveforms for furtherresearch and analysis.In addition, in order to reduce the failure rate of the capacitor, thedesign establishes the perfect capacitor failure risk early warning mechanism withmonitoring the dielectric power factor. This method is very effective based on thecomprehensive analysis of existing capacitor fault detection, with reminding maintenancestaff to adopt measures to prevent capacitor of failure.The achievement of whole issue solves the application software and hardwareproblems of design application for on-line running status monitor of power capacitor,whichmeets the design requirements of stability and accuracy.
