High-speed EMU is an integration of high-tech in today’s world, it is a symbolic equipment of high-speed railway. Technology introduction, digestion and assimilation promote the localization and innovation speed of high-speed train strongly. CRH5A EMU is typical EMU of the technology introduction200km/h EMU. The in-depth research to traction system is conducive to enhance localization of high-speed EMU and Autonomous Innovation Ability of intercity train.This paper took the main circuit of AC-DC-AC traction converter of high-speed EMU as research object, gave an overview of the technology development situation of high-speed EMU at home and abroad, summarized the AC-DC-AC traction converter main circuit character at home and abroad. After the comprehensive studying, drew a conclusion of the different main circuit structures are determined by particular conditions on each country. As indicates (1)The different current receiving (2) Power distribution (3)The bogie control. The paper detailed the design features of main circuit of traction converter of CRH5A, analyzed circuit operating principle of the four-quadrant pulse rectifier, traction inverter and brake chopper, Analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of the circuit,for example,the harmonic control, less losses, etc., indicated that the rationality of the design of the circuit. According to the traction performance requirements of CRH5EMU, capacity calculation method and steps for each part of main circuit of traction converter are discussed. The parameter calculation of main circuit are given including the type selection of converter power module, the capacity calculation of DC link, the design of transformer and braking resistance calculation. The rationality of device selection is validated by simulation analysis.By the research of the main circuit of traction converter of CRH5A EMU in the article, it is used theoretical research and simulation. Verifyed the rationality in main circuit structure of traction converter and electrical parameters, provided a reference for EMU traction converter circuit in our country.
