Dye sensitized solar cells (DSSC) is a new type of thin film solar cell. Thepreparation process of DSSC is very simple and no environmental pollution, and theraw material of the photocell are abundant, and this kind of solar cell usually have arelatively stability of photoelectric properties, in addition to this, the cost of DSSC isvery inexpensive.The people through did research on different component of DSSC, thephotoelectric conversion efficiency of DSSC continuously improved. So the dyesensitized solar cells are supposed to have big development potential and applicationvalue, are expected to replace traditional silicon series solar cell.In the dye sensitized solar cells, the photo-anode, a nano-porous semiconductorthin film electrode with sensitizers, is the vital part, the photo-anode can produce thephotoproduction electrons when exposed to sunlight, its also can collect electrons andsend them to the external circuit. In a word, the photo-anode’s performance directinfluence the conversion efficiency for the DSSC.In the component of photo-anode, nano semiconductor films are indispensible. Inrecent years, the more research about semiconductor films is titanium dioxide (TiO2)nanocrystalline thin film. However, zinc oxide (ZnO) as a new type nano functionmaterials, have amazing electronic transmission characteristics, and good morphologycontrol, low cost,abundant raw materials and simple preparation process.This paper mostly studied on the photo-anode of DSSC, prepared ZnO-nanorodsarray film electrode, which have neat appearance, even dimension, and high specificsurface area. Meanwhile we extracted natural pigment as sensitizer from plant fruits,and researched the photoelectric properties of the sensitized electrodes.1. In our experiment, we used sol-gel method and spin coating method preparedZnO nano seed layers which have a uniformity on the the FTO conductive glasssubstrate. The crystal structure and surface morphology of ZnO seed layers werecharacterized by XRD and SEM.2. Using low temperature solution method prepared ZnO-nanorods array film onthe ZnO seed layer. Researched the growth of ZnO-nanorods array film from growthtime, solution concentration and placed way of the glass factors. When the FTOconductive glass substrate vertical placed in solution at90℃, solution concentration is0.025mol/L and grow4h, we have relatively uniformity ZnO-nanorods array filmwhich diameter about80nm,length about600nm. We using ZnPc dye and PbS quantum dots as sensitizers prepared seriesZnO-nanorods electrodes, the absorbance greatly enhanced of the electrode when thetwo sensitizers composite sensitization. We assembled DSSC using the compositesensitization electrode and tested its working characteristic curve. We obtained a solarcell with a fill factor of0.348, a schort-circuit photocurrent of1.42mA, anopen-circuit voltage of304mV, and a overall light to electricity conversion efficiencyof1.66%3. We extracted natural pigment as sensitizer of DSSC from plant fruits,usingnatural dye instead of synthetic dye which costly. We prepared strawberry pigmentand mulberry pigment from fresh fruits, and studied their absorbance characteristic.We assembled DSSCs using natural dye as sensitizers, obtained3.9×10-4conversionefficiency with strawberry pigment as sensitizer and5.5×10-4with mulberry pigmentas sensitizer.
