The conventional claw pole generator can not meet the need of applications in carsbecause of its low efficiency in power generation and poor behavior in low speed aswell as lacking of output capacity. A new kind of HEV claw pole generator was studiedhere in order to improve its performance and behavior in low speed. This kind of clawpole generator combine the advantage of electrical excitation claw pole generator andpermanent magnet generator which not only can achieve continuous adjustment of theair gap flux but also improve its output capacity and efficiency.This thesis mainly focus on the structural optimization and the power outputcapability of the hybrid excitation claw-pole generator.The work done here includefollowing aspects: First of all, briefly talk about the developing and research status ofclaw pole generator in domestic and abroad.The structure and advantage ordisadvantage of the three kinds of claw pole generator are been introduced. Structureand operation principle of the HEV claw pole generator used in electrical cars are beendiscussed.Second, the no-load air gap flux has been calculated using3D finite elementsimulation and the result has been analyzed and compared which shows that the HEVclaw pole generator with magnets put between the poles with good Cost-effective.Onceagain, the current characteristics of HEV claw pole generator is studied in the way thatfield-circuit method.Then took a claw pole generator used in a car as an example andstudied its current characteristics as well as the improvement of the outputcapacity.Finally the MATLAB model as well as co-simulation model using Maxwelland Simplorer of the claw pole generator has been built and analyzed.
