Steam generator is one of the most critical equipment in a nuclear power plant. It is the effective control of water level of the steam generator that could guarantee the security of a nuclear power plant. Apart from the typical non-self-balanced and non-minimum phase characteristics, the controlled object, steam generator water level, also reflects the typical characteristics of variable parameters, which is influenced by the large-scale load changes and brings tough problems to control system design. In this paper, the U-tube steam generator water level characteristics are analyzed. Besides, its five models of its typical operating conditions are reduced and simplified, on the basis of which the architecture and algorithm of the steam generator water level control system are designed. In the first place, based on the feedforward and feedback control structure, the traditional PID control method and MIC-PID control method are utilised which includes feedforward controller and feedback controller. Moreover, the effectiveness of the two methods are compared and analyzed through simulation. In the second place, this paper, appling Dynamic Matrix Control algorithm and Generalized Predictive Control, proposed different predictive controllers under different operating conditions. Further more, fuzzy membership functions are used to achieve a wide range of variable working conditions under the control scheduling, whose simulation tests verify the effectiveness of the method.
