With the uprise of the urbanization, the incidents of urban non-point pollution,floods and deteriorated micro-climate happen frequently because of the increase ofimpermeable pavements, the ecological environment is being faced with severesituation. For these issues, the low impact development (LID) based on thedecentralized on-site stormwater management techniques has been appliedsuccessfully with prominent achievement. In China, solving a series of problemsrelated to ecology, environment and economy under the situation of acceleratedurbanization needs to adopt the LID properly during the new-built and retrofit projectsto reduce the negative impacts in terms of runoff pollution control, flood preventionand micro-climate maintenance.However, the scarcity of theoretical research and statistical analysis for theoverall benefits of LID stormwater management system has been one of the mainbarriers in facilitating the widespread of LID in our country. For conquering such anobstacle and promoting the wildly utilization of LID, the effects of runoff pollutioncontrol, effects of runoff volume reduction, effects of energy saving and carbonemissions reduction, effects of economy and society have been studied and analyzedthrough the ways of materials collection, theoretical calculation, and field monitoring.Finally, a few achievements about several main LID techniques have been obtainedsuch as calculation methods of runoff reduction, removal efficience of runoffpollution as well as statistical reference table of carbon emissions. In the ending, theoverall benefits of utilization of LID stormwater management systems adopted by apracitical plot in HangZhou city have been depicted quantitatively and qulitatively viathe combination of the analyses of plan and layout of the LID and the above researchresults.The quantitative and qualitative analysis ways as well as the related data, suitablefor the specific condition of our country, have been proposed in this paper, thusproviding the overall benefits analysis of other LID stormwater management systemswith reference and example.The multiple aims have been achieved simultaneously by the case study, thedisplay of overall benefits and analysis methods. So the participants (decision-makers,investment sectors, designers, workers and citizen) of urban stormwater managementsystem building or retrofit are capable of realizing those benefits performed by LIDstormwater management systems comprehensively and vividly. It helps theparticipants to transform and deepen their idea of stormwater treatment mentally, therefore, overcoming the main barriers of the widespread of LID and facilitating thewildly adoption and development of LID across the China.
