With the auto-related laws and regulations are increasingly stringent and customers areincreasingly high on the car ride comfort, there is growing emphasis on the car engine noise,vibration and harshness (NVH). The engine torsional vibration of crankshaft system is animportant part of automotive engine NVH analysis, however, the traditional crankshafttorsional vibration design methods and design tools need to spend a lot of time and number ofrepeated tests in order to obtain satisfactory results.In this paper, using advanced analytical techniques and tools the dynamic vibrationresponse of a four-cylinder gasoline engine crankshaft system is comprehensively analyzed,and improvement program of Torsional Vibration Absorber (TVA) design presented can beused for the design and development of engine crankshaft system..1) A Lumped Parameter (LP) model of Torsional Vibration (TV) in engine crankshaftsystem is established, and the accurate calculation of crankshaft torsional vibration calculationparameters is explored.2) Free vibration and forced torsional vibration of crankshaft system are analysed usingthe EXCITE DESIGNER software simulation, dynamic response characteristics of thecrankshaft system at external excitation are obtained, and whether the torsional vibration ofeach index can reach the requirement is analyzed.3) A test of torsional vibration characteristics is carried out in the test bench. Torsionalvibration response of the crankshaft system installed at different frequencies TVA aremeasured, and the TVAdamping effect are compared, ultimately the engine crankshaft systemmatch the ideal TVA. The results of theoretical calculations and test results are moreconsistent and the design of the TVAis fully achieved the desired damping effect.4) The TVA structure modifications on the torsional vibration of crankshaft system effectare discussed, then structural parameters of the crankshaft system components are optimized,and torsional vibration control effect is evaluated.
