Reinforced concrete deep beam, which is widely used due to its remarkablebearing capacity, plays an essential role in modern concrete structures. However, owing to its complicated force mechanism, traditional stress analysis principle isneither applicable nor sufficient to determine its strength. Therefore, the calculation, analysis and design of it, which is not easy, is still not well unified or solved up tonow. Nowadays, most of the calculation formulas of deep beam design adopted bydifferent countries’ building codes are empirical formulas obtained through regressinganalysis of large quantity of experiment data. Although practice shows that thesecurity of deep beam components designed according to empirical formulas can beensured, it lacks definite utmost bearing capacity and mechanical implication, whichnot only invites scholars’ query to the rationality and economy of the formulas, butalso resulted in the great difference and variety of calculation principles and empiricalformulas. From the above analysis we can see that it still has realistic and economicmeaning to further research the mechanical behavior, calculation analysis and designmethod of reinforced concrete deep beams. Therefore, this thesis, based on domesticstandards and strut-and-tie model which is popular abroad, carries on experimentalstudy on the mechanical behavior of deep beams with different shear span ratioaccording to these two reinforcement methods. The main work and research findingsare as follows:1. The thesis designs six deep beams with different shear span ratio and carrieson ultimate bearing capacity experiment under the concentrated force. sample SL1,SL3, and SL5are designed based on the relevant regulations about strut-and-tie modelin Appendix A of Building code requirements for Structural Concrete andcommentary (ACI318M-05),while Sample SL2, SL4, and SL6are designed based onthe relevant regulations about deep beams in China Code for Design of ConcreteStructure (GB50010-2002).2. Based on analysis of experimental phenomena and data, the thesis educes themechanical behavior of reinforced concrete deep beams with different sheer span ratioas well as the influence of different reinforcement methods on bearing capacity.3. The thesis, which conducts finite element nonlinear analysis of the samples and compares with the experiment result, makes further efforts to verify theconclusion obtained by the experiment.
