In October2008, the "new ship energy-efficiency design index (EEDI)" was put forward, which set a new energy-efficiency standard for ship’s design and building. The index pushed the issues of resistance and efficiency for ship in waves to the forefront. In this paper, the studies is focused on energy efficiency, objectived to explore the new technology way of energy saving and emission reduction.Based on the EEDI formula from IMO, the paper completed the forecast for the decrease of speed and ship’s energy-efficiency. With the help of CFD and designed program, the calculation and verification for added resistance was completed. Our study was based just on the advanced idea of MDO. We established a set of optimization system and carried out the optimization for reducing resistance in still water and added on in waves.The optimization system has the following functions:quickly complete resistance forecast of new’s ship; fully complete calculation of ship’s added resistance and the forecast of EEDI; accurately provide evaluation of the new ship’s seakeeping; easily complete the optimization according to different performance requirements in different optimization strategy.We directly use simulation code to analysis the performance indicators of a new design. This ensures the precision of design problem and the credibility for the final design. At the same time, in order to improve the efficiency of the optimization and ensure feasibility of automatic optimization, the paper takes approximation technology. A neural model(NN) is introduced and trained to establish metamodel of added resistance calculation, seakeepingability analysis and prediction in the chapter4. These greatly reduce the optimization computational cost and bing a great convenience to the optimization work.Through the comprehensive optimization, this paper made clear the influence due to the ship geometry elements on ship’s performance. The result can be used for demonstratable stages of main dimensions and it has some practical value in engineering.
