Due to the concern on global climate warming and green house gas emission, ships has been faced the great pressure from public and shipping industry in recent years. The ship energy efficiency not only depends on the equipment condition and loading status, it is also influenced from the navigation environment. Navigation environment includes hydrologic or meteoric factor like wind, wave, current, water depth and so on, the knowledge on the influence effect from different factors lacks of share and succession, coupled with the complexity of the influence mechanism, there is a shortage of systematic study on the influence to ship from navigation environment.Based on analysis of study progress both at home and abroad, research methods and technology roadmap are determined, and this paper analysis the advantage of using data-oriented methods to study ship energy efficiency. Characteristics of energy efficiency for inland river ship are analyzed from two aspects:inland river navigation environment and ship itself, this paper then discusses the energy efficiency evaluation tool EEOI. Based on the analysis of data needs for ship energy efficiency research, the relevant static information and dynamic information are proposed, and the influencing modes are discussed, the data acquisition program is developed. By a comparative study on three ship-shore communication methods:ZigBee, AIS and GPRS, a ship-shore communication system for ship energy efficiency study is designed, and the data base was analyzed from the level of data base system and data base management system, the conceptual design, logical design and physical design are achieved. On the basis of analysis on wake, thrust deduction, and current, the problem of relationship between main engine rate and cruising speed is proposed, the research on the relationship between main engine oil consumption and navigation environment by regression analysis is developed, several regression analysis software are introduce and their application are introduced, the optimization of ship energy efficiency is induced to the problem of solving the optimal solution under constrained nonlinear programming.Application tests show that the platform of research system for energy efficiency for inland river ships designed in this paper is of high degree of accuracy and reliability, in the data collection and transmission, the analytical and optimized methods meet the energy efficiency research needs.
