Waterborne paints have been the major species in the interior wall decoration materialsfor their features of health, environmental protection and excellent performance by usingwater as the dispersion medium. The properties of waterborne paints were affected by thenon-uniform dispersion of pigments and fillers or improper rheology regulation during theproduction process. Emulsion is used as the film-forming substance of the waterborne paintsand plays a core role in their performance. How to make waterborne interior wall paints thathave good dispersion stability, storage stability and excellent performance has not only thetheoretical significance, but also the value of engineering applications. The production process of styrene-acrylic emulsion paint was studied. The effects ofTiO2crystal, different particle sizes of calcined kaolin, talc, heavy calcium, diatomite andmontmorillonite powder, different dosages of sodium hexametahposphate, SN-5040andkuaiyi dispersion agent, stirring speed on the fineness of emulsion paint pigment slurry wereinvestigated, respectively. Meanwhile, the effects of pH value and different dosages ofdifferent thickeners on the viscosity of emulsion paint were systematically investigated, respectively. The results showed that emulsion paint pigment slurry was prepared withfineness of20μm at the dispersion time of30min, emulsion paint particle size distribution of1~10μm and better viscosity stability in the conditions of rutile TiO2as the pigment, calcinedkaolin with the particle size of1250mesh as the filler, SN-5040of1.2%as the dispersionagent and stirring speed of1500r/min. The viscosity of emulsion paint increased when thedosage of inorganic, cellulose and synthetic thickeners increased. And the viscosity ofemulsion paint kept the same when the pH value increased by adding inorganic thickener, cellulosic thickener or HEUR, respectively, while increased slowly when the pH valueincreased by adding alkali swell-able thickener and then kept the same.At the same time, organosilicon modified acrylic emulsion were synthesized bypre-emulsion process, semi-continuous and seeding polymerization with BA, MMA as the soft and hard monomer, D4vias the organic silicone monomer, SDS and OP-10as theemulsifiers, respectively. The effects of monomer ratio, the emulsifier ratio and concentration, polymerization temperature and organosiloxane concentration on the properties of emulsionwere investigated. The results indicated that the organosilicon modified acrylic emulsionsynthesized in the conditions of m(BA)/m(MMA)=49/49, m(SDS)/m(OP-10)=1/1, emulsifiersof4%of the total monomer, D4viconcentration of10%and polymerization temperature of80℃had low gel rate of0.29%, high monomer conversation rate of99.34%, good dispersibilityand mean diameter of89.47nm.
