Smart grid is a modern grid which is made up by advanced technologies such as: sensing measurement technology, information and communication technology, analysis and decision technology, automatic control technology and energy power technology. Alarm management system is the important component which ensures the safety and stabilizes of the grid, but it did not cause enough attention for a long time, and it is especially lack of quantitative evaluation technology. At home and abroad, many blackout case analyses show that the collapse of the power grid would have been avoided. However, due to too many alarm signals, it is difficult to identify and deal with the main alarm signals timely for the dispatcher, which always caused the accident to expand.With much more data points and the larger scale of the network connection and other characteristics, the future smart grid can be more informative, the alarm management system would face many unprecedented challenges. Smart grid in China is in its planning stage, one of the important problems needs to be solved is:how to design a reasonable alarm management system to adapt to the characteristics and needs of our smart grid.Focusing on the important questions, I have researched on the development of advanced alarm management system of smart grid in this thesis, worked hard to propose the reasonable alarm evaluation indices for advanced alarm management system of smart grid in China, and carried out case study of advanced alarm management system. The current literature retrieval results show that it maybe the first study case in alarm management system of smart grid, and it will be a very useful exploration for the design and implementation in alarm management system of smart grid in future.A new framework is built for the performance analysis and rationalized design for the alarm management system in this thesis. Performance indexes such as:the false alarm rate, missing alarm rate, average alarm delays, interference alarm rate, constitute a comprehensive performance evaluation system for the alarm management system. There are some important technological and theoretic innovations in dealing with both single alarm signal and multiple alarm signals, they have broken through bottleneck of the existing technology, and they can adapt effectively to the new features of smart grid, which include mass of data points, the large-scale of the network connection, etc. These methods results, such as these methods’function on alarm performance indices, will provide theoretical basis for the rationalized design of alarm system, therefore, they have very broad application prospect.
