Due to various corrosive effects, reinforced concrete structures in corrosive environments had shown serious deterioration, which usually caused by concrete deterioration rebar corrosion degradation of bond strength between rebar and concrete. As a result, durability of many corroded reinforced concrete (CRC) structures usually degraded badly, and could not word normally much before their intended service lives. Presently, durability degradation of the CRCstructures has led to the disastrous results in the civil engineering worldwide. Consequently, durability of CRC structures is becoming an important challenge to the engineering profession. The cracks and their distribution are the most visible information to show the degradation of mechanical property of the corroded reinforced concrete (CRC) member. A series of studies of this aspect is done in this thesis. The main works are as follows:Firstly, the corrosion level and mechanical property of the CRC beams are studied by the distribution character of the surface cracks based on the accelerated electrochemical corrosion experiment. It is discovered that the crack distribution in the CRC beams satisfies perfectly fractal behavior in the process of the static test.Secondly, the quantitative relationship between fractal dimension and ultimate load carrying capacity and deflection in the middle span are studied, respectively. The deflection in the middle span is computed by fractal method.Finally, obvious linear correlations between the fractal dimension characteristic quantities of surface-crack distribution and the structural physical are revealed, respectively. As a result, the fractal dimension characteristicquantities ed as the fractal characteristic factors to evaluate the damages of reinforced concrete structuresReported here show that fractal dimension can provide an efficient way to study the corroded reinforced concrete members. Meanwhile this method with significant theoretical and applicable value can also be incorporated into study of durability of CRC members in engineering practice.
