With the lacking of energy, it is most important to improve the manufacturing level of centrifugal pump. The research, design and manufacture of centrifugal pump need new breakthrough, which must be adapted to the expansion of application field and the energy requirements. In the21century, the CFD technology has been applied widely and effectively in the simulating internal flow of centrifugal pump. The CFD technology and the optimization design method has been become a popular research direction. It can reduce the product development cycle widely and also improve the product performance.The main works of the article are as follows:1. Introduce the CFD simulation technology and its application in the centrifugal pump design and research. Summarize the research status of the method of optimizing centrifugal pump.2. Construct a three dimensional hydraulic model of the double suction pump by using Pro/e, and then mesh the model with Gambit. After comparing and analyzing the popular turbulent model and calculation method, the most appropriate turbulence model whose parameters is most suitable can be selected. After that the unsteady numerical simulation can be used for the meshed model with Fluent.3. According to simulation results of the previous numerical simulation, predict the performance of the150S-50double suction pump and analysis the impeller flow field, volute flow field and the cavitation erosion condition, and then verify the feasibility of the numerical simulation which is chosen before.4. In basis of summarizing a large number of documents, the optimization method of pump can be proposed. The precious formulas of mechanical loss, volume loss and hydraulic loss must be analyzed and chosen firstly. With the most accurate formulas which can predict the meshed model most accurate, it can establish the function of the overall efficiency and the design parameters of impeller.5. Analysis the relation between the efficiency and the specific speed, the relation between the specific speed and the head. And then get the maximum of the overall efficiency and new impeller design parameters with the genetic optimization algorithm. The overall efficiency has been increased1.65%academically, in the standard working conditions. Construct a three dimensional hydraulic model again with the new design parameters, and verify the feasibility of the optimization method. The results show that the overall efficiency of the optimized pump has been increased1.67%in the standard working conditions, and the optimization purpose of saving energy has been achieved.
