With the increasing growth of population and the continuousdevelopment of economy, there are more and more high-rise buildings,skyscrapers, and underground buildings. The deeper the excavation depth isand the larger the excavation area is, the more severe problem of deepfoundation pit construction safety and environmental impact will beinduced, which has become difficult in the design and construction of deepfoundation pits. Wenzhou is located in the coastal area of soft soil. Due topoor geological conditions and complicated hydrology, the design andconstruction of deep foundation pits are faced with more difficulties.A literature review is conducted on the design and construction ofdeep foundation pits at home and abroad. The ordinary types, andadvantages and disadvantages of the supporting structures of deepfoundation pits are summarized and their application conditions arediscussed in detail. By combining the special geological and hydrologicalconditions in Wenzhou, the application and development of foundation pitsupport technology are investigated and analyzed. It can be concluded thatthe row pile supporting system with interior supports is a most applicablesupport structure in Wenzhou.A case study taken from the foundation pit work of the Wenzhoutelecommunications building is conducted. In practice, the principle oftime-space effect was sufficiently considered and applied in soil excavation.Through the multi-step excavation and timely support method, the bearingcapacity of the unexcavated soil was fully utilized and the problem of thestability and deformation of deep foundation pits especially in the soft soil area was better solved. At the same time, the support structure of thefoundation pit and the surrounding soil body were monitored during thewhole construction process. By collecting and analyzing the monitoringdata, the construction project and techniques were timely adjusted to ensurethe safety of the foundation pit and surrounding environment.
