The propulsive performance of inland ships suffers more effects than that of the deep-seaships for the limited water depth of channel. These effects and interference will lead to thedeterioration of working environment of propeller and decrease propulsion efficiency.Therefore, to find a kind of layout for propellers, which suits for the law of shallow watereffect, is a significant project to improve and increase propulsion efficiency of inland ships.With the progress of science and technology, the ship-building industry continuously developswith large scale and high speed. Thus many channels are becoming “shallow channels” as tomodern ships. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the propulsive performance of inlandships in shallow water channel. On the basis of panel method theory and CFD technology, italso studies the law of multi-propeller interference and the unsteady interference of propellers.First, calculate the open water performance of single propeller based on multi-referencesystem. Use CFD software to model and carry out the simulation calculation for thehydrodynamic performance of propeller when the advanced coefficient is different. Thendraw the open water performance curve and analysis pressure distribution of propeller bladesand velocity distribution of the whole flow field in X direction. The result will be used as thecomparative object for the follow study of propellers interference. The simulation result ofopen water performance of DTRC4119standard propeller is used to compare with theexperimental data to verify the accuracy of forecasting methods.Secondly, discuss the layout of multi-propellers. Carry out the numerical simulationanalysis for the flow field of propulsive system of multi-propellers (three propellers). In orderto study the variation of the hydrodynamic performance conveniently and directly, the modelof three propellers interference is simplified to be a two propellers interference model and thechange of relative position is decomposed to be two situations. One is changing thelongitudinal space between two propellers in the same axis, and the other is changing thetransverse space between two propellers in different Rotating shafts. The optimal propellerlayout program is obtained by analyzing the variation of the hydrodynamic performance ofthe two kinds of layout.Finally, using the same numerical simulation method of propeller hydrodynamicperformance, the model of ship and propellers is built and the mesh division is done combinedwith Auto CAD, Gambit and ICEM. And then calculate and analysis the mutual interferencebetween ship hull and propellers. Predict the propulsive performance of inland ship with multi-propellers.
