With the development of tidal current turbine, more and more attentions arebeing paid on the research of its application. Nowadays studies on the application oftidal current energy technology and its farm construction are still in its infancy.Design of the structure of turbine is one of the key technologies in tidal current energyextraction. Environmental load calculation methods and criteria of structure design isthe primary problem in support structure design of the tidal current energy devices.Study on the tidal current energy converter is extremely important to alleviate theenergy crisis and environmental pressure. In developing50kW horizontal axis turbine tidal turbine unit, environmentalload on turbines and its structure are studied in this thesis as well as its calculationmethods. Mainly three parts are included in the thesis: calculation of environmentalload on horizontal axis turbine tidal turbine unit, reliability analysis of turbine unitand calculation of environmental load on50kW horizontal axis turbine tidal turbineunit.First, the ocean environment of the demonstration power station and its load onturbine units were analyzed. Calculation method of hydrodynamic load on turbineblades and turbine structure were given under studies on Momentum-Blade elementtheory and other basic theories. Linear wave theory and Morison equation were usedto calculate wave load on underwater structure. Method to analyzing of static anddynamic responses on underwater structure was also given.Simulation of the hydrodynamics of the structure, including the load on turbine bladeand on supporting structurewas done by using finite element analysis software..In the end by analyzing FSI(fluid and structure interaction), the thesis gave outthe static and dynamic response of structure to verify the stability of the supportingstructure. Methods and results of studying in this thesis could be basis for environmentalload calculation, structure design and stability check of the horizontal axis tidalcurrent tirbine units, especially in gravity based structure.
