Gas-solid flow widely exists in industrial processes. The parameters of particles, such as the size, concentration and its velocity, have great influence on the productionefficiency and process safety. The problems of gas-solid flow are so complicated thatit is very difficult to be solved theoretically and experiment is necessary for assistingthe study in many cases. Therefore, developing an reliable, efficient and on-line instr-umentation is highly significant. In this dissertation the principles for measuring the particle size, concentrationare discussed. Chapter three describes the basic principle for determining particlesize and concentration with light fluctuation based on the random theory and lightscattering theory. After making a detailed study on the law of particle distribution inspace and the relationship between the parameters of particles (i. e. size andconcentration) and the transmitted intensity of light which passes through the mediawith moving particles, the fluctuation method is set. In chapter four experimental aremade, using the pulverized coal. The measured size distribution of pulverized coalagrees well with the measurement result of sieving. The results show that thesemethods are reliable.
