As the traditional grid signal acquisition system, SCADA/EMS no longer meet theincreasingly complex requirements of the power system. Wide area measurementsystem(WAMS) based on unified collection information will bring new vitality to the traditionalsignal acquisition system. As a key device in WAMS, phasor measurement unit(PMU) isexpensive. In addition, it is impossible to install PMU on each node in the grid in a pilot phase.So PMU optimal allocation scheme is necessary to meet the dynamic monitoring in the wholenetwork, and also to meet the requirements of economy in the transition phase.According to the above requirements, the first part of this article structures the basicconfiguration of the model without considering the actual circumstances of the various nodes inthe grid. Verified by simulation, the basic model with only a few PMU makes the power grid tomeet fully observable. With the Improvement of the basic model, the improved model canobtain more than one feasible solution.In actual grid operation, each node has different indicators will affect the normalinstallation and operation of PMU, so consider the actual situation is necessary to configure thePMU in the grid. The article first considers the case of zero injection nodes may appear in thegrid to configure PMU. Then it considers variety of actual cases in the grid to configure PMU.At last, the article proposes of PMU segments installed configuration.The failure of the transmission lines has bad influence to the daily life of the people, theindustrial and agricultural production. In addition, due to the booming urbanization, the scale ofdistribution network increases rapidly. When distribution network failure, it is difficult toidentify the point of fault. The second part of this paper builds fault location model fortwo-terminal lines firstly. According to the two-terminal fault location model, the fault locationfor three-terminal has two fault location indexes. With the rapid development of the grid, thereare a number of branches in network Topology. So the end of this paper proposes the faultlocation model for N-terminal.
