Development of high performance electric drive technique is called with the progressof the society. Electric drive system mainly depends on two factors: the machines and thecontrol strategies, furthermore, high performance means high performance machines, highquality control strategies and the organic combination of the factors mentioned above. It’sbased on the points mentioned above that ALA rotor machine is studied, also, Direct TorqueControl (DTC) is introduced; thus, a DTC system of ALA rotor synchronous reluctancemachine is deeply researched, which will provide a solid foundation for the widely use ofALA rotor machines in the field of high performance electric drive.First, high performance electric drive is briefly introduced, and some existingproblems in this field are clarified; moreover, new theories, new ways and developmentdirections of high performance electric drive are analyzed too. Also, the structuralcharacteristics, control strategies and development state of ALA rotor machines are allclarified, and then the necessity and feasibility of implementing direct torque control on themotors are discussed. Then, efficient development methods of control systems are brieflyintroduced and take the dSPACE DS1103as the developing platform of the system.Secondly, the motor’s S-function simulation models programmed in M language werebuilt based on its mathematical models. Aiming at the problem of existing a oscillatoryzone in open-loop variable frequency startup of ALA rotor motors, this paper probes thesolution of implementing closed-loop DTC strategy for this type of motors deeply.Futhermore, the Space Vector Modulation (SVM) DTC system is discussed for reducing thetorque and the flux ripple. The simulation results validate the correctness and the feasibilityof all the control strategy discussed above. Finally, hardware circuits of the whole control system whose core part is dSPACEplatform were designed and successfully passed the hardware debugging. To validate thecorresponding theoretical analysis, experimental researches were conducted based on thesimulation researches, getting some guiding experimental conclusions.
