The lending white water supply project of Datang International power generationcompany in Fuxin City, Liaoning Province, is a industrial water project. It’s a long distance,high lift, hilly and medium-sized pipeline project. Nowdays, with the development ofeconomy, with the increasing of domestic water and industrial water, our country isconstructing more and more long-distance water supply projects. In such projects, the waterhammer phenomenon often leads to tube rupture, which causes inconvenience to our livesand serious economic loss. This text summarizing the previous research, based on transientflow theory, application the method of characteristics, has a water hammer calculation tothis project and mainly analyzes the protecting measure of cut-off water hammer inpipeline.One key of this text is the study of water hammer protection devices. Commonly usedprotective equipment includes: slow closing check valve, gas injection and exhaust valve,water injection and discharge device and so on. There are many different types of exhaustvalve. This article compares the past exhaust valves with the cylinder buffer exhaust valve.We choose the later which has a better and stable performance. We compare four kinds ofinjection and discharge devices then choose the box-type two-way surge tank finally.The other key of this text is water hammer protection calculation, studing the bestprotective measure of water hammer. The project has two kinds of pipeline,Leading whitewater supply pipeline and sewage pipeline. The former calculation of water hammerincludes two pumping stations’ water hammer and a valve shutoff water hammer of gravityflow. The latter includes a pumping station’s Water hammer and a valve shutoff waterhammer. The former is a medium-sized diameter pipeline,while the later is a smalldiameter pipeline. For each water hammer, We use three different measures. We enhancethe strength of the three measures step by step. Finally, according to the water hammerpressure chart, we choose the measure whose water hammer pressure is reduced to a safepressure. Then, it’s the best protection measure of water hammer.To different projects, the type of water hammer protection equipment is roughly the same. But the number and installation location of the equipment are different. To eachproject, We must have water hammer calculation to determine the number and theinstallation location of the equipment.The research on water hammer protecting of the lending white water supply project,provides a reference value for water hammer protection of long-distance water transferprojects. Beside, it has reference to the safe operation of the pipeline.
