The paper systematically analyzes the research status and major issues of existing domesticand overseas fault location method of high voltage transmission line, selects double terminalmethod of traveling wave to study intensively through contrast, focus in the inquiry aboutexisting problems and how to improve the precision of which, and eventually determine the faultlocation solution of high voltage transmission line based on double terminal traveling wave.Firstly, in detail, the paper describes the transmission characteristic of traveling wave,deduces the analytical method of phase-to-module transformation and theoretical foundation forrecognition of fault point reflected wave. The major features and main problems which need tobe solved in practical use of fault location for double terminal method of traveling wave aresummarized in theory.Secondly, according to existing three technical difficulties of fault location of doubleterminal traveling wave method, the best solutions are correspondingly proposed. Thetechnology of GPS satellite synchronous clock is used in data synchronous sampling, testingtools of arrival time of fault initial traveling wave uses wavelet transform, and fault locationalgorithm adopts new one of eliminating wave velocity. What’s more, the paper respectivelydescribes the fundamentals and superiority of the solutions above in detail.Then, the models for fault location of two kinds of bus connection mode are simulatedrespectively under MATLAB with theory of phase-to-module transformation, signal singularitydetection and modulus maxima of wavelet transform. The simulation results show that the newalgorithm of fault location outperforms traditional one remarkably, in addition, which is notaffected by fault type and distance, bus connection mode and noise, transition resistance andfault initial phase angle and has high precision and practicability.Finally, the paper finishes the design of hardware and software with a core of A/Dconversion chip AD7865and DSP central processing unit TMS320F2812, coordinating withcurrent transformer, signal conditioning circuit, GPS synchronous clock, GPRS DTU and uppercomputer.
