The Research Of Creating Genius Loci Of The Modern Funeral Parlors In The Southern Region Of Fujian Province

As a special type of public buildings, funeral parlor is a building buries the dead and a remembrance for the later generations, which is also an indivisible part of the modern city. In addition to the necessary functions to meet the needs of people, as a special place, the funeral parlor but also need to meet the people’s consolation. More importantly, to lead people to think of life and the future, which is a spiritual experience. Because of the taboo of death, since ancient times, the discussions and researches of the funeral architecture are mostly in the study of the spatial form of the ancient burial system and imperial mausoleum, and it is rare for people to get involved to the spirit of the place of the modern funeral constructions.Southern region of Fujian province has a distinct geographical features and rich historical contexts, and there are many well-known and accepted cultural flashes by its own characteristics in the traditional funeral and interment activities, which are in line with the Norberg Schultz’s definition to the spirit of a place. Therefore, this article attempts to start from the location, the nature and connotation of the spirit of the place, launches a deep analysis over the concept of the spirit of place and the spiritual connotation of funeral parlors by the transverse and longitudinal research method, and explores how to create a modern funeral parlor in the southern region of Fujian. This part is the the focus of this article.The article firstly limits the concept and analyzes status of the southern region of Fujian’s funeral parlors, discusses the development status, development trends and problems of the southern region of modern funeral parlors. It is the existence of these problems that cause our thinking of the spirit of place of the funeral parlor, and contribute to study of funeral parlor spirit; followed by a detailed analysis of the theory and related concepts in the spirit of place; then start from the four aspects such as environmental factors, local culture, the main space and human needs, the spirit of the place of the southern region of modern funeral parlor factors are analyzed and investigated; Finally, it creates a strategy of building the spirit of place of funeral parlors in the southern region by combining the reality.
