With the scale of the modern power system and the capability of thesingle generator being ampliative continuously, the power system and thegenerator develops higher request for the reliability and stability ofmodern excitation system. The exciter Ex2100manufactured by GeneralElectric has excellent technical performance. Ex2100also has richoutstanding experiences in global, and also has some in China. But perthe realistic requirement from China marketing, China end user requestcheaper in price and more flexible in configuration. So it became verynecessary to modify the existing product Ex2100to a new productEx2100H, if trying to get more opportunities in China exciter market.That’s the goal of this research.The paper first summarized all needs from China end users, andanalysis the result, then comes the main three items of this research. First,the hardware of Ex2100Modification, including how to update powerconverters heat sink, de-excitation and over-voltage modules in Ex2100.Secondly, change the software of Ex2100meanwhile based on hardware.The last one is according the solution, manufacture the prototypeEx2100H, do the power on testing in factory lab, do the validation testingin headquarter lab. Certainly, the paper also describes how to fix all theproblems happen in these testing, optimize the solution, to meet thedesign goal, it is all Ex2100H technical characters meet the standards.
