With the rapid development of industry and economy, our demand for energy isincreasing. But the environmental problems are intensified, which will cause humandemand for clean energy highly increasing. Nowadays, as China’s economic aregrowing rapidly, our demand for electricity will be greatly enhanced. For these reasons,the development and utilization of renewable energy is urgent. The solar chimneypower plant as a use of solar power technology has broad prospects for development. Inthis system, the solar chimney is an important part of the power station, and the heightof the chimney will directly affect the efficiency of power stations. Based on this, thispaper proposed two kinds of solar chimney design and some comparative analysis onthe structures, providing design reference for practical applications in the future.First, this article described the research status of the solar power generationtechnology at home and abroad, and summarized the factors that affect the powergeneration efficiency by consulting the relevant literature, and considered these factorsin the design. Secondly, using the finite element software SAP2000established twokinds of solar chimney models, the reinforced concrete chimney and the concrete-filledsteel tube chimney, and the bottom of the two structures were opened holes to meet thefunctional requirements. Finally, the model of the two structures and the performancesunder the wind and seismic loading were analyzed, and the results were compared.Studies have shown that the natural cycle of the two kinds of solar power chimneyis in reasonable range, and its stiffness is also reasonable. The responses of the twostructures under seismic load are far less than the response under the static wind load.This suggests that the wind load is the control factor of such a structure. Responsespectrum analysis results show that the seismic performance of the concrete filled steeltubular solar chimney is better than that of reinforced concrete solar chimney. Theconcrete filled steel tube solar chimney weight smaller than that of reinforced concrete,and it also shows better mechanical properties. So the concrete filled steel tubular solarchimney is more suitable for constructing higher solar chimney to improve the powerefficiency.
