Most of the land of Tianjin is covered with saline-alkali soil because of theepeirogenic history of this place. In the new round of development of cities in China,land is extremely needed and the land with saline-alkali soil, which is not suit forfarming, cannot evade the fate that shouldering the function of residence. On the soilwith high concentration of saline-alkali normal plants cannot grow, which makes theenvironment is not good enough for human to live in. On the other hand, once humanstep into the area of saline-alkali soil, how to reduce the influence from human being tothe weak ecological environment is another problem confronted with us. However, justfor the contradiction of function between saline-alkali soil and residence, designer as usown a new Challenge and chance. How to inspire the vitality of the barren land in theway of importing the element of human is the starting point of this research. At thesame time, the concept of economization is extensively spread in practice and theproject I want to introduce is required to reduce cost as much as possible. That meansboth of the cost of the project and the cost of operation should be considered.This research takes the project of Lichang of Wanke Community in Dongli Districtof Tianjin as an example, which is the design of the environment of residence on the siteof saline-alkali land. Based on the natural element and the plan before, I try to introducethe natural water system into the site and design the structure of soil, which is good forthe penetration of rain and easy for the drainage of saline-alkali water, all of which canconnect the system of surface water, the system of rainwater and the system of recycledwater. The rainwater and the recycled water are used for Irrigation on the site and thesystem of surface water provides the way for the drainage of saline-alkali water. In theway of the improvement of soil as this, there is no need to get new soil from farmlandfor planting.Besides, the disused material from the demolition of original houses can be usedfor the structure of permeable layer of soil, which can not only solve the problem ofreclaiming but also cut the cost. Also because of the concept of economization, theparking space outside should be enough for all the people living here, which may have abad impact on the atmosphere of the residence. Therefore, how to make use oftopography to control line of sight is very important as well as how to create beautiful and ecological parking space.
