Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) deck is a new type of deck using the cross-laminatedtechnology that can disperse the influence of wood inherent defect to the structureperformance, and make full use the wood of low level. It has the advantages of high sizestability, superior mechanical performance and good economics etc.. At present, there is rareresearch on this type of deck in China, and the research achievements about the mechanism aswell as interface properties are lacking seriously which restricts its application in China.This paper analyzed the flexural performance and dynamic characteristics of CLT decksby experiment based on foreign relevant achievements. The influences of layer andconnection type on the performance of CLT deck were discussed. The main tasks were listedas follows:(1) The collection of the related theories, research achievements, and the researchstatus of CLT deck, and the introduction of the characteristics, process sequences and thestructure and connection details of it, which could be used to guide the design of theexperiment.(2)The experimental research of bending capacity to the CLT deck was carried out.Through the experiment, the load-deflection curves, failure modes of CLT deck wereanalyzed under the vertical load. Furthermore, the influences of layer and connection type onthe bending performance of CLT deck were analyzed and compared.(3)The experimental research of dynamic characteristics to the CLT deck was carried out.Through the experiment, the vibration frequency and damping characteristics of CLT deckwere measured. In addition, the influences of layer and connection type on the dynamicperformance of CLT deck were analyzed and compared.(4) Using the combnation theories of CLT, the effective bending stiffness andcombination coefficient of CLT deck were calculated respectively, and the allowabledeflection during the seviceability limit state was discussed.Through the research of this paper, the conclusions gained would provide some usefulreference to the future research.
