With the Western development of China, the construction of highway in loess areas hasachieved great achievements and it is expanding from the core cities in loess areas tosurrounding areas. In these areas, hydrological, geological condition is complex; and most ofthese areas are mountainous. All of the above determines that people will meet a lot of tunnelengineering in the construction of a highway.Because the loess has a special structure, weak intensity, low bearing capacity, and someloess is collapsible. This fact often causes overlap of cavity excavation influence area afterdetermining the clear distance between two tunnels according to relevant standards. This willinevitably result in some design defects and construction accidents, which is serious threat tothe safety of personel, and even caused huge economic losses. So in particular topographicalconditions, the analysis on the deformation characteristics of Loess highway tunnel based onthe effect of double-hole, is of great economic and engineering significance. This paper employs the construction of loess tunnel as the engineering background. Withthe use of geotechnical centrifuge model test and numerical simulation methods, this paperresearches on the deformation characteristics of surrounding rockmass based on the effect ofdouble-hole. The study mainly includes the following parts:1.Collect relevant domestic and foreign research material about project, and summarizethe relevant research results to learn more about the dynamic and problems of presentresearches.2.Carry out three geotechnical centrifuge model tests. The tests simulate the deformationof surrounding rockmass of loess highway tunnel when it is buried deep and in thecombinations of different clear distances and spacing. Then find out their deformationcharacteristics through experiment data analysis and research.3.Use geotechnical model and large finite element analysis software (ansys) to simulatethe stress and deformation of loess tunnel lining structure and surrounding rock under thecombinations of different interval and spacing. Compare the conclusion of the numericalsimulation and the results of geotechnical centrifuge model experiment to determine valuerange of the minimum clear distance and clear reasonable distance which can ensure thesafety of a tunnel when it is deep buried and uses some particular tunnel excavation method.4. Find out some problems and put forward reasonable suggestions on the researchesloess highway tunnel.
