Slow mode transportation is the most basic, health and low-carbon travel mode for urbanresidents, which embraces ideas of equity and harmony, human-friendly and sustainabledevelopment. For today when looms a tight energy supply plus a worsening of trafficcongestion in cities, and making a slow mode transportation system with high quality couldguide the traveling public to come up with a new understanding of how they might traveldaily, so the reasonable development of slow mode transportation is very important.In recent years, studying the urban traffic by theory of complex network has become ahot spot. The slow mode transportation is a typical open, complex network, so we provided anew angle of view and platform to study the slow mode transportation by using the theory ofcomplex network to study the slow mode transportation network. So in this paper, we use thebasic theory and analysis method of complex network, model the slow mode transportationnetwork and analysis the characteristics, and verify the network by some examples. Then thispaper not only verifies the feasibility of using the theory of complex network to research theslow mode transportation, but also provides the support in theory using the network structureto research a deeper level of analysis and optimization to the slow mode transportation forlater. The study and achievements in this paper are as follows:Firstly, we introduce the basic concept of the slow mode transportation. In the field ofslow mode transportation there is still having some problems. In order to solve these problemswe propose the developing direction of the slow mode transportation. And from the systemperspective we points the slow mode transportation is a typical, complex and open system. Onthis basis we address the importance of the city traffic network theory based on the complexnetwork.Secondly, in this paper we discuss the slow mode transportation network using the theoryand methods of the complex network.(1) The paper develops an abstract mode of the city’sslow traffic network which is the L space and P space network topology.(2) The paper putsforward the complex characteristic indicators in L and P spaces. And then discuss how theseindicators reflect in the slow mode transportation.(3) According to the analysis of these complex characteristic indicators, we determine the type of the type of slow transportationand make the levels division of the structure.(4) This paper gives the programmingalgorithms to compute the characteristic indicators.Thirdly, using the slow mode transportation network of high-tech zone of xi’an as aempirical research, analysis the relevant indicators with the computer programming method,and pointing out the traffic key nodes in the network. Then it presents a small world and scalecharacteristics of the slow mode transportation of the high-tech zone, and so as to providetheoretical basis using the complex network to solve the problem of the slow modetransportation in the future.
