Oil tanker and bulk carrier are both blunt ships, which are two of thethree main civilian ships, and they usually run at low speeds and havenonlinear flow fields. Research on the strong nonlinear flow fields aroundblunt ships at high speeds have great academic significance and practicalengineering value. It can provide guidance for the elevation of speed forblunt ships, especially in the pursuit of efficiency and high performancetoday.Firstly the characteristics of blunt ships are summarized. Then thedevelopments and CFD methods in nonlinear field, mainly in high speedships and full ships, are systematically studied. Finally the numericalmethod used for simulating the flow field around blunt ship is developed.Based on the validation of simulation for the flow field around shipDTMB5415, the numerical method is used to calculate the flow fieldsaround series S60that Cb are0.60、0.70and0.80respectively. The effectsof block coefficient on ship resistance and wave making are discussed,and the nonlinear flow fields around high speed blunt ship S60(Cb=0.80)are specially investigated, during which the sinkage and trim effects areinvolved. The results show that strongly nonlinear phenomena appear, like shoulder vortex, shoulder waves and wave breaking and the blunterthe ship is, the faster the resistance performance deteriorates as the speedincreases. The pressure resistance increases when ship gestures are takeninto account.
