In the control-configured vehicle design, relaxed static stability is akey technology. Compared with traditional aircraft design, it can bring thebenefits of reducing cruise drag, operation weight and direct operation cost;however, it deteriorates the quality of controllability and stability and italso introduces the risk of infringing airworthiness regulations. In order to make the full use of relaxed static stability, improve theairworthiness performance and reduce direct operation cost, it’s necessaryto make multidisciplinary optimization in the conceptual aircraft design. Inall, the work of this paper can be concluded as follows:1.It studies the physical theory of relaxed static stability anddemonstrates its aerodynamics and weight benefits by using a commercialaircraft example; also it build the mathematical models of Aerodynamics,Weight, Flight control and Thrust system;2. The current method to evaluate flying qualities of civil transportaircraft is to take flight test after the whole aircraft design is finished. Ifairworthiness management is introduced during the earlier design stage, flight test risk is reduced, and the period of new civil aircraft developmentsare decreased too. The quantitative and calculable criteria which is basedon Civil Airworthiness Regulation Part25is carried out and concluded asthe relaxed static stability aircraft optimization constraints;3. From the Airline companies aspect, it analyzes the direct operationcost and charge in detail, also builds the mathematical models of aircraftdirect operation cost;4. Taking account of unique features of RSS aircraft, it develops a control-configured aircraft optimization framework integratingAirworthiness requirements and DOC considerations.
