For a long time, gravity retaining walls and scale retaining walls are used widely insubgrade engineering at home and abroad. With the development of economic and therequirement of saving energy and protecting environmental, walls which have thefeatures of lightening, mechanization, being prefabricated and being assembled, savingenergy and protecting environmental will be a direction of retaining structures’development. The inverted Y type retaining structure will be developed widely for theirmain features of lightening, a lower requirement on the bearing capacity of foundation,making use of fillers fully or formation’ stability and being more economical, etc. Inorder to promote the inverted Y type retaining wall in the domestic research andapplication, this paper mainly discussed the stress characteristic and structure of theinverted Y type retaining wall. But also for the future of the actual project to providesome reference.This paper carry out studies of mechanical properties and engineering applicationanalysis of the inverted Y type structure.(1)The characteristic of the inverse Y type retaining structure with cantilever andgravity retaining structure is analyzed in this paper.(2)The inverse Y type retaining structure whose earth pressure calculation model,mechanical calculation system and the structure stress checking calculation and otheraspects is researched. and the force characteristics of the inverse Y type retaining wall,cantilever and gravity wall is made a comparative analysis by engineering examples.(3)Through the analytical calculation method, the Y shaped angle is analyzed.According to the previous results, the calculation formula of internal force and sizeabout vertical arm, heel plate and toe board of the inverse Y type retaining wall. As wellas, the wall reinforcement of the inverse Y type retaining wall is studied.(4)The displacements, the earth pressures and the basal stresses’ distributions ofthe inverse Y type retaining wall were analyzed by PLAXIS software, and acomparision with analytic calculation was made to explore the advantages of them.(5)The production and construction of inverted Y type retaining wall areresearched which can provide some useful suggestions on construction for futureengineering application. Comparing with cantilever and gravity retaining wall, the advantages of theinverted Y type retaining wall on the aspects of earth pressure, foundation stress andstability could been obtained by the united methord of analytic calculation and FEM.Furtherly, The structure of inverted Y type retaining wall is researched. Besides, thecalculation formula of the inverted Y type retaining wall’s dimensions and thereinforcement of wall are derived.
